Green light recommended for skyscraper set to be Salfords tallest building
A 55-storey tower, which would be “Salford’s tallest building” and form part of a 542-apartment scheme, looks set to be approved by planners. One Heritage Tower Ltd is behind the mixed-use plans for land at the corner of New Bridge Street and Greengate. The proposals seek to build a single building with two blocks, one of 14 storeys and the other at 55.Residents’ facilities, basement parking and three commercial units with landscaping and public realm works are also included in the proposals. At 14 storeys, the lower block would principally address the Greengate highway and the location of a future piece of public realm known as the Market Cross. The taller element of the proposals has been positioned adjacent to the River Irwell and would extend to 55 storeys in height. If built today, the application said it would comprise Salford’s tallest building. The two elements of the proposed building would not be connected at the lower two floors, as a publicly accessible pedestrian route through the site has been proposed. The overall number of homes within this revised scheme has been reduced to 542 from 545 in the ‘approved’ development. A mix of one, two and three bed apartments has been proposed within the project.
